Project Model Elements

A project model is built by adding elements and connecting them, so that the total project is shown as a system. The five primary kinds of project elements are introduced below.

Location

Locations are where teams are based. Locations have a local schedule, timezone, and language which are defaults for teams added to the location.  Face to face meetings occur at a location, which may lead to travel cost and time for teams from other locations able to attend the meeting.

Product

Products are the meaningful result of completed work. A Product includes Activities that represent scope and progress to realize the Product. Products can be grouped as a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS).

Team

Teams apply abilities to work and coordinate. Teams work on activities through Contracts to indicate a role (PDQA) in the activity. Teams can be grouped in an Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS).

Phase

Phases are grouped activities as a flow of progress over time. Phases can be grouped as a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

Activity

Activities represent progress toward the completion of Products. Activities are related to other activities through Dependencies, and are linked to Teams through Contracts. The activity is three sided since this elements connects three systems:  product, workflow (process), and organization.
